How to Export a ChatGPT Conversation to PDF, Word or Markdown
A step-by-step walkthrough for saving one ChatGPT conversation as a document, plus the two things that cause most missing-content problems.
Step 1: Create a share link in ChatGPT
Open the conversation and click Share in the top-right corner. ChatGPT copies a public link right away and confirms with "Public link copied". On the mobile app, open the chat menu and tap Share. The link looks like chatgpt.com/share/β¦ and anyone who has it can view the conversation.

Step 2: Paste, review and export
Paste the link into the converter above and click Convert to Markdown. Check the preview, fix anything with the editor's formatting toolbar, then download the conversation as .md, PDF, Word or HTML.
Avoid these two mistakes
- 1.
Newer messages can be missing
A share link may not include messages added after the conversation was first shared. If something is missing, refresh the ChatGPT page, click Share again to copy an updated link, and convert that link. Manage links in the Share notice lists all your shared links, but the newest one only appears there after a refresh.
- 2.
Only the conversation text is read
Images you uploaded, images ChatGPT generated, files and canvases stay in ChatGPT. The Markdown marks where each one was, so you know what to add back by hand.
